3rd annual Life After Stroke Conference a success!

The network held its third annual Life After Stroke event on 25th September to help promote recovery and rehabilitation, especially in the longer term following discharge from hospital.

The event was opened by our Patient Co-Chair Ann Bamford and the morning session included a mixture of talks on topics such as returning to work, diet and hydration, continence and accessing support from Citizen’s Advice.

The afternoon was slightly delayed in starting but featured keynote speaker Dr Praveen Kumar (pictured right) who outlined an approach developed in Bristol that helps stroke survivors recover through group exercise.

Salford community stroke teams then shared their matched care model for ensuing their patients receive appropriate well being and psychological support following discharge.

Workshops ended the day and were led by the Stroke Association who focused on carers and their exercise programme, with Think Ahead sharing insights into providing peer support.
