Macclesfield stroke service moves to Stepping Hill Hospital

From 1st October 2016, the District Stroke Centre (DSC) inpatient stroke service and associated TIA and outpatient stroke services transferred from East Cheshire Trust (i.e. Macclesfield District General Hospital) to Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The Stockport service now comprises an Emergency Department based Hyper Acute Stroke Assessment Unit, a 17 bedded Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and a 48 bedded Inpatient DSC service, serving the people of Stockport, the High Peak and Eastern Cheshire.

The services will also provide a “drop-in” TIA referral service in Stepping Hill Hospital as well as a dedicated therapies team for the inpatient wards. The service transfer has allowed the skills and expertise from the East Cheshire Trust service to be maintained as a number of nursing, medical and therapies staff have all transferred to complement the existing staff working in the newly expanded stroke service on the Stepping Hill site.
