Network’s first conference a huge success!

We held our first conference at the AJ Bell Stadium on 1st March, with nearly 200 delegates, speakers and exhibitors attending the event.

The programme, presentations, Facebook Live and Twitter updates are available here.

The event was opened by Professor Pippa Tyrell who introduced a range of speakers including a keynote address by Juliet Bouverie, CEO of the Stroke Association, who complemented the region on its services and work to improve stroke care.

The afternoon was chaired by Professor Craig Smith who had the pleasure of announcing the North west Stroke Choir, who sang a set of uplifting and very personal songs with their usual gusto! The afternoon featured more talks plus a choice of workshops.

Our Clinical Lead Dr Jordi Morell rounded off proceedings by awarding prizes for our poster competition; the winners were:

Acute care – James Keitley & Martin Punter (SRFT). Introduction of a patient leaflet for cerebral venous thrombosis in Greater Manchester

Inpatient rehabilitation – Sylvia Moss et al (BASIC). Balance Project Study: Prevention of falls in clients over 55 years with neurological conditions by using virtual reality

Community services – M McCabe & J Halpin (Stroke Association). Caring for You. A support programme for carers. (pictured left)

We will be holding an even bigger and better event next year, so watch this space!
