ODN Launch event a success

The network held its official launch event on Friday 22nd January 2016 with a packed programme of speakers. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Tony Rudd, National Director for Stroke, who focused on the next ten years of advancing stroke care in the UK. Also presenting was our Clinical Lead Dr Jane Molloy who expanded on the work of the ODN, and Professor Pippa Tyrell talked widely about current research. Tracy Walker discussed the benefits of integrated stroke community rehabilitation and members of four voluntary sector organisations shared their insights into how the NHS could better work with their groups, and help stroke survivors and carers access the important services they provide. Undoubtedly a highlight of the event was the invaluable input from a large number of stroke survivors and carers who came and held round table discussions with attendees, sharing their experiences of life after stroke. The afternoon ended with an uplifting rendition of a number of songs by the Stroke Association Community Choir.

Over 110 people attended the event and we hope to hold a longer, conference next year to provide a focal point for stroke in our region.
