Mental Capacity Assessment training

This masterclass will be led by Ali Cherriman, highly specialist Speech & Language Therapist from North Manchester’s community team.

It is open to both inpatient and community teams, and relevant for all professions. This event is suitable for doctors and potentially helps evidence CREST competencies (and may support further criteria): 1.11; 2.1-2.3; 3.4; 3.7; 3.8 and 3.12. It may also meet criteria within the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board sub specialty training curriculum for stroke medicine, especially in section 5.

The event will cover:

  • To recap and refresh knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005)
  • To explore communication ramps and resources available
  • To improve confidence in using supportive materials to assess capacity
  • To know when to request expert support for complex communication assessments

The workshop will consist of a presentation including case studies, followed by group work through provided case studies.
