More research published on centralisation of stroke services in Manchester

A new article has been published reviewing the management and leadership of full centralisation of the acute stroke care pathway in Manchester, when compared to London. The region continues to be part of the follow up study funded by the National Institute for Health Research.

ODN Launch event a success

The network held its official launch event on Friday 22nd January 2016 with a packed programme of speakers. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Tony Rudd, National Director for Stroke, who focused on the next ten years of advancing stroke care in the UK. Also presenting was our Clinical Lead Dr Jane Molloy who expanded on the work of the ODN, and Professor Pippa Tyrell talked widely about current research. Tracy Walker discussed the benefits of integrated stroke community rehabilitation and members of four voluntary sector organisations shared their insights into how the NHS could better work with their groups, and help stroke survivors and carers access the important services they provide. Stroke Association publish State of the Nation

The Stroke Association have produced State of the Nation, which is is a definitive, up-to-date, evidence-based and easy to understand set of statistics relating to stroke including incidence, mortality, prevalence, risk factors and stroke care.

Creative writing book launched

  • January 12th, 2016

Stroke survivors from across Manchester launched a new book full of poetry and short stories about their life experiences at Citylabs, Manchester. A short film of the event can be seen here.

A group of 15 stroke survivors, carers and volunteers took part in a series of 10 interactive workshops organised by the Stroke Association and creative organisation Writing on the Wall. (more…)

AF Toolkit launched

The Greater Manchester, Lancashire & South Cumbria Strategic Clinical Network have launched a toolkit for commissioners to help improve the management of Atrial Fibrillation (AF). It will help them to commission an effective service for the prevention of stroke in people with AF.
