The New Statesman has published an article outlining the aspirations for stroke in the NHS England Long Term Plan. It covers how the surgical procedure thrombectomy will be expanded in England, and how new networks will help implement the changes needed to save 1,000 lives a year. We already have an organisation that does this of course!

On Friday 26th April, the Stroke Association are launching their first ever TV-led marketing campaign, Rebuilding Lives. This essential investment is a key part of their new strategy. It’ll help to raise the profile of stroke and its impact, and awareness of the charity, so they can reach more people who need help, and receive the support needed to do this. (more…)

A new University study, published in PLOS One, highlights the high incidence and prevalence of visual problems in acute stroke survivors.
In order to ascertain the number of new cases of Post stroke visual impairment (PSVI) and their prevalence, researchers from the University’s Department of Health Services Research, led by Professor Fiona Rowe (pictured) examined stroke assessments of 1033 patients from three stroke units over one year. The network held its 3rd annual conference on 6th March at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles, with over 160 people attending. This year, the day went ahead as planned without the intervention of the weather, as snow disrupted last year’s event! (more…)
